Christmas Math

This morning I woke up to find the kids going through all the recently wrapped presents under the tree. So to help in their quest to search the hidden treasures we did math. We sorted, counted and tallied the gifts. Then with the numbers we practiced addition and then went on to learn how to find the average number of gifts per person, practiced multiplication and division and then figured out what percentage of gifts each person has under the tree. Ready for a good laugh?

Family gifts - 16%
Shelby - 12% (her birthday is xmas day)
Brianna - 12% (don't know why)
Davis - 9%
Mason - 9%
Britney - 9%
Lochlyn - 7%
Ashten - 9%
Palmer - 7%
Dad - 7%
Mom & Dad - 1%
Grammy & Granddad - 1%
Grandpa & Grandma - 1%
Mom - 0%

No worries - looks like I need to go shopping!
(We also learned that some kids need to finish their gift for their sibling!)
Lots of fun in math today!

  2. I'm sure it's a real challenge to come up with a "teaching moment" so often, but they are learning to apply math in real-life situations. I admire what you are doing so much!
