It's About Time

I finally gave into peer pressure and took my kids to the library - I know it is about time. I blame Grandpa for my lack of desire to "borrow" a book. Dad wouldn't let us borrow anything while growing up and if for some reason we did borrow something we always returned it in better condition than when got what was borrowed. Mom would have us sneak out the front door to borrow an egg or stick of butter from Nyman's so Dad wouldn't know.

But back to the library - it has always been easier to buy the book than to borrow a book from the library. Who has time to keep track of the book and make sure it isn't damaged or lost and then return the book - on time. Not me! So over the years we have developed a love of reading in our home by getting books for birthdays and Christmas and whatever other occasion would give me the excuse to buy a book. I love kids books and collect them and love the stories and artwork.

Peer pressure from the kids set in and I folded and we went to the library. Everyone got a library card and checking them out is so cool - it is magic! You have to go to the Orem library to understand what fun the magic is! We ended up coming home with way too many books (the librarian told Britney she could check out 100 books for her limit) but the kids have read non-stop since yesterday and we even got a lot of science books for some fun Halloween science activities in school.

Palmer discovered the library echoed and so he was very loud because it sounded so cool to talk. I was sure we were going to be kicked out but nobody even looked at us funny and the librarian said the kids were so good. I guess it is not like the movies portray. We had a fun time!

  1. i have mixed feelings about the library. i LOVE books. i'm not a fan of books that have been touched by a million hands. i also have issues with keeping track of books. i eventually find all the overdue library books but by the time i do the fines are more than i could have bought the books for, lol.

  2. Well, I guess I am weird because I LOVE the library (and I remember Dad being so funny about borrowing too)! I guess it's the teacher in me because I taught so many kids who couldn't afford books and the library was their best friend, so it became mine too because it opened a whole new world for them. When Jennie was here, we went faithfully every two weeks to the library, (and now I just make Steve go with me)!
I am so glad it was such a good experience for you and I love the pictures-especially the one with Palmer and the statue! You ought to try storytelling time, if they have it there! My grandkids love it!!
    I love you, L.

  3. My kids love going to the library. Everytime we go, we end up checking out so many books that we can't even carry them. I am funny about everyone touching them to, but the boys will sit and look at the books for a long time when we get home and it keeps them entertained.
